It’s already no mystery that guys masturbate on a regular basis. Guys talk about it openly and find no shame that they can’t keep their hands off themselves.

So how come when it comes to female masturbation the word is mum? Well…no one really knows why there’s shame associated with female masturbation but not for men, but one thing is certain: There is no logical reason for that shame. In our modern age, we know that female stimulation and pleasure, is just as important and necessary as male stimulation  is, and since women find it harder to climax during sexual intercourse, it almost follows naturally that masturbation should be an accepted practice.

We polled 500 women and were shocked not only to find that so many women masturbated on a regular basis, but that they were so open about it. And to tell you truth, we were quite pleased to hear of it! Below you’ll find the results to our recent survey as compared to results from a survey taken in 1951.

In 1951 only 49% of all adult women had masturbated.
In 2009, 91% of women had masturbated.

In 1951, 100% of women who had masturbated felt guilty about their actions.
In 2009 only 17% admitted that they felt this way.

In 1951 women masturbated on average about one time every other week (for single women) and less than one time a month (for married women).
In 2009 the average is about two or three times a week for single women and once every other week for married women.

In 1951 girls masturbated for the first time at age 16.
In 2009 girls experience their first solo orgasm at 13 years old.

In 1951 no one ever spoke about female masturbation.
Today, adult women can be found chatting about giving themselves orgasms openly-in real life and on television (think Sex and the City).

The most important finding from our recent survey showed that 72% of women (whether they masturbated regularly or not) wished that there wasn’t such a taboo associated with masturbation and that there would be more literature and more acceptability on the subject.
