An Inside Look at Testosterone Topical
Testosterone is a hormone that occurs naturally in males, and is important for many processes, including the growth and functioning of the male sexual organs and the development of male characteristics. A lack of testosterone can have several negative effects, such as decreased sexual desire and ability, extreme tiredness, depression, brittle bones, and loss of male characteristics such as a deep voice. One of the ways to treat low levels of testosterone is by using testosterone topical, a gel which is absorbed through the skin.
Have a thorough discussion with your health practitioner before you start using testosterone topical. Mention any drugs that you are allergic to, or if you have diabetes, sleep apnea, chronic breathing problems, liver or kidney disease, or are overweight. These may require a dose adjustment, or may make testosterone topical unsafe to use. It should also not be used if you have prostate cancer or male breast cancer.
Testosterone topical should be applied in the morning to clean, dry, and undamaged skin on the shoulders or the upper arms. Allow the gel to dry for at least five minutes before getting dressed, washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water after application. Try to keep the areas where you applied the gel as covered as possible to avoid contact with other people. If someone does come into contact with the treated area, they should wash the contact area immediately with soap and water.
Get regular blood tests. Avoid swimming, bathing, or showering for at least five hours after application. Testosterone topical can have some serious side effects, which can include:
• breast enlargement and/or pain
• decreased sexual desire
• acne
• hair loss
• depression
• mood changes
• difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
• dry skin
• swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
• breathing problems, especially during sleep
• erections that happen too often or that last too long
• difficulty urinating
• weak urine flow
• sudden need to urinate right away
• frequent urination, especially at night
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.
Testosterone topical must not be used by a woman, and pregnant women should not come in contact with it as it can cause birth defects in unborn babies.
The good thing about testosterone topical, is that it is extremely effective and most males (and their partners!) will be thrilled with the results.
